Below is the excerpt from the interview Can you tell us about your background and experience in the fashion industry? I bagged a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Crawford University in Igbesa Ogun State in 2010. Since then, I have been working in the industry. I started way back in my University days when I sold shoes, shirts, ties, and the like to my course mates, this business was so successful in my university days to the extent that I became a household name in my university. Additionally, I have participated in several University fashion shows and collaborated with stylists and photographers to create visually impactful collections. What inspires your design aesthetic? I find inspiration in various sources, such as art, nature, architecture, and different cultures. I believe that fashion is a form of self-expression, and I aim to create designs that evoke emotions and make a statement. I also closely follow current trends, but I strive to infuse my unique perspective and creativity into every collection. How do you approach the design process from concept to finished product? I started by conducting thorough research, gathering inspiration, and developing a concept. Once I have a clear vision, I sketch my ideas and create mood boards to visualize the overall aesthetic. From there, I focus on fabric selection, pattern-making, and garment construction, ensuring that the design translates well into a wearable and functional piece. Throughout the process, I remain open to feedback and iterate on the design until it meets my standards. How do you stay updated with the latest fashion trends and industry developments? As a fashion enthusiast, I am constantly immersed in the industry. I regularly attend fashion shows, read industry publications and blogs, follow influential fashion designers on social media, and participate in networking events. Additionally, I make an effort to travel and explore different fashion capitals to gain firsthand exposure to global trends and cultural influences. Can you describe a challenging project you worked on and how you overcame it? One of the most challenging projects I worked on was designing a collection with a limited budget and tight deadline. To overcome this, I prioritized effective communication with suppliers and manufacturers to negotiate favourable terms. I also focused on optimizing the use of resources without compromising the quality of the final product. By carefully managing the project timeline and collaborating closely with the production team, I successfully delivered the collection on time and within the allocated budget. How do you incorporate sustainability and ethical practices into your designs? Sustainability and ethical practices are essential considerations in today's fashion industry. I strive to incorporate these principles into my designs by using eco-friendly and responsibly sourced materials. I also emphasize durability and longevity in my designs to promote conscious consumption. Additionally, I explore upcycling and recycling techniques to minimize waste. By constantly researching and collaborating with sustainable suppliers, I aim to create fashion that is both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally responsible.
