While addressing newsmen in Abeokuta, the former Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, OSCHOTECH branch, Comrade Biodun Abiodun called on the State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and Ogun State house of Assembly to urgently save the Institution from going into extinction due to the alleged incapability and financial recklessness of the Provost.
Abiodun revealed that the health institution is seriously passing through some trying periods as not less than Seven of its courses are not accredited by the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE the supervising Board, contrary to the claim of the Provost..
Biodun Abiodun who is an alumnus of the Institution, and also a former Union leader and Lecturer in the School, accompanied to the press briefing by some other former Union leaders called for urgent measures to restore full accreditation for all the institution’s programmes.
The former Union leaderd warned that graduating students of the college may soon be delisted from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation exercise if the deplorable situation of the school was not addressed by Governor Dapo Abiodun and the state House of Assembly.
Comrade Biodun Abiodun, said all the courses being run in the school, both at the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) levels, lacked required accreditation.
He blamed the Provost, Dr Abiodun Oladunjoye, for the development, saying his administration failed to take desired steps despite several correspondences by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
Biodun Abiodun joined by two former ASUP chairmen, Adeoye Kuku and Abiola Ojure, lamented the rot in the state-owned college, including alleged questionable financial transactions, illegal award of access road contract and purchase of automobiles.
Although the institution’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ayodele Alaga, recently debunked the allegation against the Provost and his management team, the aggrieved lecturers said they were concerned about the fate of staff and students of the school.
He debunked the allegations that the anti Oladunjoye protest is politically motivated, urging the State government to urgently constitute a fact finding committee to look into all the administration of Oladunjoye.
Enumerating various fraud allegations against the Provost, Biodun Abiodun said many alleged wrongdoings of the Provost include the purchase of three vehicles at an inflated cost of N60million, resurfacing with granite, less than a kilometre of road for N25million, which was washed off by flood in just eight months.
Other allegations include his inability to secure accreditation and reaccreditation for ND and HND programmes from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for five years running, siphoning of monies deposited at Catland Microfinance Bank by students of the medical imaging of the college for practical posting experience; among several others.
“Oladunjoye spent N13m to procure second hand (not the approved tokunbo) hummer bus and a 2004 model Toyota Camry (Orobo) for Mr Ogunbanjo an unconfirmed staff in the Library which is valued at N1.1m. Mr. Provost should show purchase receipt that tallies with N13m gotten for these vehicles”.
In similar vein, “Oladunjoye got approvals to purchase a 2019 Toyota Corolla but ended up buying a lesser Toyota Camry 2017 model and pocketed the differential amount. It should be noted that as at 16th March 2019 that the approval for the Toyota Corolla 2019 & Toyota Camry 2009 was given by Ministry of Education, there was no Commissioner in place as she had resigned to contest election. It was the Permanent Secretary that approved the N21.990million for the cars. Did the PS have such wide powers? That is one of the collaboration between the Ministry top officials with the provost to embezzle the College’s money”.
“For the umpteenth time the visitation panel sent to the college in 2011 raised observation about his academic qualifications and the petition against him by the College ASUP Chapter was swept under the carpet in a grand conspiracy by the leadership of the Ministry of Education as the Mrs Oloko report remained inside the drawer of the ministry leadership till today”.
“The provost is no longer eligible to vie for a second term in office. Aside from his corrupt tendencies, non-performance and intimidation of staffs of the college, he is over 60 years old and has spent 43 years in the service having joined the service in 1976”.
“Contrary to his claims, no one is politically victimizing the provost as he has subdued all dissenting voice in the college.
