The Vigilante Group of Nigeria, (VGN) Ogun state Command said it will continue to work with only legally constituted security outfit in the State in reducing crime rate to zero level and not be distracted by individuals who are only seeking attention without putting the interest of the people at heart.
The Ogun State Commander of VGN , Commander Nurein Adedoyin said this while speaking to journalists at the VGN commands Office, Kuforiji Olubi, Adigbe Abeokuta.
Adedoyin who was reacting to a publication in some online medium purportedly attributed to one Shola Sodiyan said the Vigilante group of Nigeria which is a creation of law will not trade its formation principle and align or harmonise with any unregistered security outfit.
It could be recalled that a former Superintendent of VGN in the State and who also claimed to be the Coordinator of harmonised Security network, Shola Shodiyan, has in the recent maligning the character of the Ogun State Commander of VGN, Nureni Adedoyin, Olusola Olawale and some senior officers of VGN as sycophants.
He said the senior officers of VGN and the state commander, Dr Adedoyin had agreed to work under a harmonised security network in which he is the coordinator.
But debunking the publication, Adedoyin said the Vigilante Group of Nigeria is a registered entity who its operations permeates all nook and crannies of the country.
"The bill to give it constitutional backing is almost concluded, and as a State Commander, its not in Our purview to collapse the VGN structure in the state with any unregistered outfit.
He said truly the outfit and some other security network like So-safe corps, and others met with the Special Adviser to the Governor on security matters AIG Olusola Kareem Subair, recently to discuss matters relating the smooth take off of Amotekun in the State.
"The meeting which was at the request of the Special Adviser only discussed Amotekun matter and the role expected of us as a security outfit already recognised by law.
"What we discussed there was purely on the smooth take off of Amotekun security outfit. And I can challenge Shodiyan to bring evidence of further discussions on any subject matter apart from Amotekun.
I am a State commander I don't have any power to fizzle VGN into any unregistered security network, if something like that need be done, it will be under the Commander General and the trustee of the Group.
The vituperation of Shodiyan as I know is to seek for recognition and relevance. He had been boasting that he is close to his Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, he said he is from Ikenne, the same local government with the Governor.
Shodiyan was once an officer with VGN, but he deserted.
When he was with us, he had been working against the interest of VGN and he was issued query for two times, he deserted when the third query was issued to him he knew the implications of this, that was why he deserted from the Group. He was a Superintendent and yet he claimed to have powers that he did not possess.
I would not have responded to his lies, but because of the trust the general public has on Vigilante Group of Nigeria and the legacies we have laid since 2016 that I have been the Commander in the State.
Shola Shodiyan is no longer part of Vigilante Group of Nigeria, he has stopped attending our meetings, so on what authority is he speaking about harmonisation, who is he harmonising, I don't practise and follow illegality, now somebody is talking about harmonised VGN, what does he mean by that, immediately you attached any other name to that, it becomes illegal, and I don't subscribe to that.
Speaking on the efforts of VGN in curbing crime in the society, Commander Adedoyin said the VGN today remain a strong entity that has been partnering with other established law enforcement agencies like Police, to fight crime.
As a body we don't carry gun or any other ammunition, yet we remain a strong force in the fight against crime and criminalities.
He said the VGN under the Commander General, Mohammed Jahun will remain focus and support government both in the State and Federal to combat crime, most especially the newly formed Amotekun security outfit.
