The National President of the Amalgamated Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle, Owners, Repairs, and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), Alhaji Samsudeen Apelogun has called on the Federal Government to consider standardising the motorcycle business in Nigeria rather than Scrapping its operations.
ACOMORAN Boss who made the call at a stakeholders meeting in Abuja chaired by the Honourable Minister of State for Transportation, Senator Gbemisola Saraki said government can achieve this by creating dedicated lanes, such as what obtains in Lagos for BRT.
Apelogun further revealed that Government should phase out rickety motorcycles on our roads by providing soft loans for the acquisition of new motorcycles.
Revealing the plans of the association, Apelogun said, "as a body, we are almost done with our brand which is called ACORIDE which we believe would change the face of commercial motorcycles and tricycle business in Nigeria".
"In some states, we rank among the front liners in revenue generation and about twelve million Nigerians whose means of livelihood depends on commercial motorcycles and Tricycles are our members who might have been involved in one crime or the other" Apelogun revealed.
The number one rider in Nigeria while calling on members to desist from careless riding advocated very strongly that standardization, not scrapping should suffice especially now that the accident rate has drastically reduced.
In her remarks, the Honourable Minister of State for Transportation, Senator Gbemisola Saraki said the ministry will continue to support Acomoran in his bid to reposition its operation across the country,noting that all hands must be on deck to have a transport system that is viable.
The Minister also promise to consider the Union in the disbursement of palliative meant for the Transport sector in the country.
