As the world celebrates the 2021 World Teachers Day, a call has gone to all Teachers in Nigeria to remain focus and practise their callings with all dedication and best ethical practice.
The Provost, Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, Dr Rafiu Soyele gave the charge while given his remarks at this year's World Teachers' Day celebration organised by the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), FCE Abeokuta chapter.
The celebration which was first of its kind to be organised by the Union in the College was according to the Provost a good step taken by the COEASU FCE Abeokuta chapter as the institution recognises the enormous contributions of Teachers to nation building
His words, "I congratulate Dr Oluwakemi Oni, the first COEASU Chairman to organize a beffiting Teachers Day in the College, Teachers are very important to nation's development.
"We are told that if an Engineer made a mistake, it may affect a a person, if a Doctor also made a mistake, its effect may be on one person also, but if a Teacher make mistake, it will affect generations.
While assuring that the College will continue to discharge it's duties with all dedication and commitment, Dr Soyele said FCE Abeokuta shall continue to maintain academic excellence by turning out highly trained professional teachers to the society.
"We shall maintain our leadership position in the country and sustain the tempo. We have produced so many Teachers and with my tenure as Provost, I do not intend to change the narrative, but build on good legacies that are already on ground.
"I acted for nine solid months, there was peace, progress, I give it to all staff, but I will solicit for more of your support so as to take FCE Abeokuta to greater heights.
Earlier in her welcome address, the COEASU Chairman, FCE Abeokuta chapter, Dr Mrs Oluwafunke Oni said the year's celebration was put in place to celebrate dedication, and excellence.
She said that the Union which trains teachers must celebrate with its products as they themselves remain a point of reference to their students.
"If we fail to celebrate ourselves, I think we have failed in the project of leading by example as the general believe that Teachers reward is in heaven is no more applicable today because apart from getting our reward in heaven, this life also, we will get what is due to us as Teachers.
The day's event witnessed presentation of awards, lectur and celebration of past COEASU FCE branch leaders.
