Ogun state’s foremost university of medical sciences, Gerar University of Medical Sciences, has appointed Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, Chairman of Sifax group, as its first Chancellor.
In a statement signed by Inemesit Hanson, Public Relation specialist to Gerar University, the Vice Chancellor of Gerar University, Prof. 'Niran Adetoro believes that the appointment of Dr. Taiwo Afolabi as the first Chancellor of the university is a great step in the right direction.
While on the visit of the University, the newly appointed Chancellor, who showed his excitement on the level of development going on in the Institution, said the visit has afforded him opportunity to assess the infrastructure on ground in the university as well as inspect the facilities in the faculties of Basic and Allied Health Sciences.
The Chancellor showed his excitement at the fact that the University is taking off to it's permanent site as the approval of all its Nine take-off programmes by the National Universities Commission has been confirmed.
The programmes are Nursing Science, Optometry, Medical Laboratory Science, Physiology, Physiotherapy, Radiology and Radiation Science, Anatomy, Human Nutrition and Dietetics and Pharmacology.
Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, said he is looking forward to the commencement of academic activities in the university and consequently donates a Toyota Coaster Bus to ease transportation of staff .
Gerar University of Medical Sciences is a specialised Institution, positioned to provide first class medical training in the Basic and Allied Health programmes, producing Quality health personnel for the redemption of Nigerian health sector for National Development.
